Garlic Dal - North Indian Taste

Serves : 2-4
Ingredients
• 8 garlic cloves, peeled and slightly crushed
• 2 cups arhar dal/tuvar dal/split pigeon pea
• 2 Teaspoon cumin seeds
• 2 Teaspoon mustard seeds (optional)
• 2 green chili, finely chopped
• 1/4 Teaspoon red chili powder
• 1 Teaspoon turmeric powder
• 1 pinch or 2 of asafoetida/hing
• 2 tablespoon ghee or oil
• salt to taste
• 6 cups water
Preparation Method
1. First pick, clean and wash the dal. Now Take a pressure cooker heat ghee or oil.
And add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
2. Now add the cumin seeds and fry them and add slightly crushed garlic fry the garlic
for a minute. we don't need to brown it and add the dal and the chopped green chili.
add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, asafoetida, salt and mix these with the dal.
and add water.
3. Now close the lid of the pressure cooker and pressure cook for 5-10 minutes.
if the dal appears a little watery then reduce it by cooking the dal in the pressure
cooker without the lid. Now check the salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
serve hotly.
:: garlic dal can be had as a soup with toasted bread.it can also be served with
WHITE RICE or ROTI ::
