Murukku Festive Recipe

:: Murukku ( Karapu chuttalu )is a Traditional Indian savory snack prepared with butter, rice and Cumin seeds during festivals like DIWALI and Krishna Jayanthi  ::

 { Preparation & Cooking Time : 50 Min }
        Difficulty : Average
       Meal Type : Vegetarian
          Cuisines : INDIAN
              Makes : 10

   Ingredients
 • 2 Cups Rice Flour
 • 2 tsp Urad Dal Flour
 • 2 tsp Butter melted
 • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
 • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
 • Salt to taste
 • Oil for deep frying

      Preparation Method
1. First Mix all the ingredients using enough Water to make a smooth dough. Knead for
about 5 mins, cover and keep it aside (see this image):

step - 1
2.  Now you need a Murukku maker to press the dough into desired shape.
A Murukku maker comes with many attachments, here I have used 1 star attachment.
( see this image - you can buy this MURUKKU MAKER at EBAY.COM )

3. Firstly fix the 1 star attachment to the Murukku maker.

4. Brush some Oil on a plastic sheet.Take a small amount of dough and place it in the
  Murukku maker.
5. Next place the other mould (which is used for pressing the dough) on the dough and
start pressing the dough on the Oiled sheet.

6. Now you can see the dough coming out as shaped from the hole. Slightly tilt and move
the Murukku maker round and round while pressing so that you make a round shape.

6. You can make as many spirals as you like. Meanwhile heat Oil in a frying pan. Remove]
these shaped Murukku from the sheet to your hand and then drop them in hot Oil.

 7. Fry them till golden brown and crisp.

:: Let it cool or serve hot and store it in air tight containers ::
