Bellam Pongali Recipe ~ South Indian Style Jaggery Pongal Recipe

Ingredients
ā¢ 1 cup Raw Rice
ā¢ 1 cup powdered Jaggery
ā¢ 1/4 cup Chana Dal
ā¢ 3 cups Water
ā¢ 1 to 1 1/4 cups Milk
ā¢ 1/2 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
ā¢ 1 tablespoon Dry Coconut Slices
ā¢ Cashews and Raisins
ā¢ 2 - 3 tablespoon Ghee
Preparation Method
1. Wash the rice and chana dal and pressure it with 3 cups of water for 3 - 4 whistles.
2. Switch off the flame and wait until pressure gets released by itself.
3. Add the milk and cardamom powder to the cooked rice and let it simmer for 3 - 4 minutes.
4. Remove from the heat and add the powdered jaggery. Mix well and cover with a lid.
5. Mix again after 2 minutes. Mix well until jaggery melts.
6. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the coconut pieces, cashews and raisins to golden brown.
7. Pour this over the rice mixture and mix well. Serve!
